Community Cohesion
A project which extends across multiple curriculum areas: PE, music, performing arts, drama, language, geography, history, religious studies.
‘The Jinga Community Cohesion project hit all our targets on internationalism, global awareness and community cohesion. The pupils enjoyed the physical aspect at the same time as learning about Brazil, Africa and slavery and the vital role which music, dance, language and customs plays in building strong communities.’ Deputy KS3 leader Adrian Gill, Wadebridge School.
Participants will learn how capoeira played a vital role in maintaining community cohesion across continents during slavery and how it is still being used today in Cornwall and throughout the world to change lives and develop communities.
Project Aims
- To develop community cohesion between the local community and other areas of Cornwall/UK and the world.
- To build links between the local community and other cities/countries.
- To introduce pupils to the culture, customs and history of nations which have developed from slavery
- To illustrate the power of capoeira and samba to build international communities.
